Most people feel pretty strongly about cats in one way or another - either you love them or you hate them. But either way, you have to admit that cats are becoming an increasingly bigger form of entertainment for most across the world thanks to the internet. With everything from videos of cats flinging themselves through the air, to the sarcastic looks they give the camera in memes, it’s difficult for even the biggest anti-feliners to ignore the facts; cats are curious creatures! But there is more to those shifty eyes and slinky antics than meets the eye - cats have some pretty crazy.

    Cats have the ability to make over 100 different sounds.

    If you thought you were the only species in your home learning to talk, you’d be wrong! Cats can imitate and learn over 100 different sounds with their meow.

    They Smell with more than Just their nose.

    Cats can also smell with an organ located in the upper part of the roof of their mouths, called the Jacobson’s organ. Good thing they don’t mind cat breath!

    Did you know cats have scent glands on their paws, cheeks and the tops of their heads? If they worried about body odour as much as we do, the deoderant business could probably buy out Microsoft!

    The next time someone comments on your sleeping in too much, let them in on this fact! Cats spend 70% of their lives sleeping. Most doze the day away for 15 or 16 of the 24 hours available.

    While Mr. Newton was busy discovering the laws of motion, it seems his cats must have bothered him quite a bit! He invented the cat door - a small opening in many cat owners doors, covered by a flap that allows them to come in and out as they please.

    Really. Cats actually have ultrasonic hearing, meaning they can hear sounds on different wavelengths that humans and many other animals cannot hear. This helps them hunt smaller animals, and run miles across the road when they hear you opening their cat food. Cats can also run at least 30 mph - getting them home even quicker.

    Although cats do love to chase after birds and mice, bring them home and share them with you, they aren’t actually usually inclined to eat them! Researchers tried feeding some cats mouse flavored cat food and they wouldn't’ eat it.

    If you’ve ever seen a cat near water then you know how much they absolutely hate it. But did you know that the Turkish Van breed of cats are actually attracted to water?

    If you continually expose kittens to water from birth they will actually tolerate being around it.

    Did you know that you can actually train your cat to go on the toilet, and even flush? And that thousands of cat owners have? If you can stand the thought of your kitty sitting on the seat before you, then it can save you a lot of litter cleaning duty!     Much like humans backs have straightened out over the past, cats tails have done the same! Domesticated cats are the only kind that can hold their tail upright while they’re walking. Wild cats will keep theirs between their legs or down near the ground.

    When a human has twins, or triplets or octuplets even, it is possible for there to be one paternal father for all of them. This is not true for cats! Cats can carry up to seven kittens and have a different father for each one! That would be one dramatic episode of Maury!
